1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I want to create art projects to accompany as many lessons as I can so that my students can express what they learn in a creative way. I want to be able to cater to the needs of the children that are artistically gifted and who think creatively, while also challenging the children, who are not wired in that way to think outside the box.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
Integrated learning is all about combining different elements of learning to a lesson infusing different formats of learning such as art, music, and writing to the lesson that is being taught. Integrating art enhances the students' learning and understanding of the material and can make it more of an enjoyable experience, as well.

Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I am ok at drawing and coloring, but I am not great at painting or sculpting. I do not think abstractly, and I almost got a C in the 5th grade, which kind of made me question my artistic abilities. I am pretty confident in my drawing or copying abilities.
4. Rate your comfort level in analyzing and talking about art, and discuss.
Uneasy 1 2 3 4 5 Comfortable
I am not confortable at all in analyzing or talking about art. If there is something that is written about it I can look at it and try and make sense of it to show my students, but as far as the techniques they used and what the artistic styles were of the time my knowledge is definitely lacking.

1. How do you envision using art in your classroom?
I want to integrate art into my classroom as much as I can through activities and showing my students how to use different mediums to create their art work. I want to relate their artwork back to an art concept and really make the art activity meaningful to my lesson. I think it is so important for students to do art in their classrooms, and I think it is vital to how elementary students learn and showcase their understanding of the subject. I feel that it is also such a stress reliever to just create whatever you want to and let your imagination soar and not just stay static in a desk all day or being told information all the time. In the classroom that I have been observing in the kids are always so much more calm when they are asked to do an artistic task. They just work at it and don't think about the people around them as much. I think that is a very positive environment that they need to be a part of more often in school to get the most out of their education.
2. What do you know about integrated learning / integration?
I have learned a lot through this class about integrated learning and integrating art into my classroom and class lessons. I now have such a better understanding of how to integrate art concepts into my lesson plans and to make the art that I ask students to create meaningful to what they are learning and to their lives. I loved the way we could have a big idea and spread it across so many subjects and incorporate art into it. I learned that integrating art is not just "doing" art just because, but there is a way to make every project that the students do meaningful and impactful to their learning and growth. I can't wait to integrate art into my lessons! It is so much fun to create art and to think of ways for my students to have a chance to relax and still be able to get something out of the art activities that they are working on.

I am very comfortable and confident about making and discussing art after this semester. This is really crazy for me to even say that comment!! I am so jazzed about art now that I can't wait to have my own classroom and think of ways to integrate art into my classroom all the time! The skills that we were taught using the different mediums and tools was outstanding. I now feel so prepared to teach my class how to utilize all these ways of creating art. It's so easy now. I thought in the beginning there was no way I would get so into this class, but it ended up being my favorite out of all of my classes this semester.

Through our work with VTS I know now how to analyze art in a very affective way and how I can teach students to do the same. I understand how to analyze art in a way that I can encourage my students to analyze the pieces that they see, and I can conduct a conversation about all of the ideas that they share. I love how you can just have the floor open to any type of comments about the pieces and what the students think of them. I love analyzing art now. It is just as fun as analyzing literature to me. There is so much meaning behind every piece of art. I truly believe I can now have a conversation about art in my classroom and be confident in doing so, which I am honestly very excited about!
